These are top-of-the-line leather and neoprene grappling shin instep pads. Used for grappling, MMA, Muay Thai, and kickboxing. They are NOT intended for beginners or casual students. They are serious gear if you don’t want to mess with the cheap stuff and want something that’s going to hold up to STRENEOUS workouts.

There is a key difference between these pads and others: no straps on the back of your leg.

They have a high quality leather front with extremely high density foam padding. That’s on top of a fully enclosed neoprene “sock” for your calf and an extra elastic strap under your instep (so they don’t ride up your leg). Not super easy to get on and off, but very comfortable when you’re using them.

Because the neoprene encloses your entire calf, they don’t slip around when your fighting takes you to the ground. However, with no leg straps, nothing is cutting into the back of your calf. A VERY welcome change from the pads with straps.

Also, because the padding on the front is so dense, these are VERY popular with anyone doing Muay Thai or kick boxing. For most other “stand-up” arts (where you rarely go to the ground for any length of time), these are overkill and, honestly, you can find cheaper pads that would work just as well.

These have a “traditional” Muay Thai lace/cord tie around the top of the calf. Used to help keep the pads secure – though we find the laces aren’t really needed. You can obviously keep them tucked in (or cut them off like we do for grappling).

If you’re looking at pair of pads (whether you get them from us or not) make sure you can see the back of the pads. If they don’t tell you different, the pads are using straps to hold the shin pad to your leg and they are NOT the same thing.

These are truly some of the finest pads on the market and, if you’re a serious martial artist, they are worth every penny.

 “I like them, yes i do” 2010-05-13
By B. Shapiro (MN)
My old shin guards continually needed to be adjusted when sparing. Have been using these fellas for about two months now. They slip on quick and stay on nicely, but are always a drag to get off. Best brand I’ve used yet (2).

“Top-Notch for Muay Thai and Kickboxing!!!” 2010-05-12
By Paul Kelly (St. Paul, MN)
I practice Muay Thai and Kickboxing and have tried several shin pads, but these are the best by far. They stay in place WAY better than the shin pads with just the straps in back. They do slip out of place a touch now and then, but that will happen with ANY pad when kicking with appreciable force. I’m going to buy a second pair for my sparring partner so he will stop taking breaks during the round to fix his shin pads (he has the pads with straps).

I highly recommend these!

It’s slick, very comfortable, and easy to put on. There is a bit of difficulty removing them, but they definitely stay on during sparring sessions or competitions that require shin guards. I would not use them against a 3rd Taekwondo blackbelt that has iron in his tibia bone, but it will offer good protection against the average mma practioner. I’m really happy with them.

 “MMA? PRO WRESTLING?” 2010-02-18
By Leif A. Ostgard (Columbia SC)
If you are a pro wrestler, your going to drop about 100 bucks if your are lucky on some kickpads…these work perfectly for wrestlers, the padding also adds support to whomever you’re working with. With many spots comes risk of potato’s that wrestling jargon for stiff shots or non pulled punches. This will help soften that. Also able to work about boots, shoes and other footwear underneath. Remove the front patch with a thread seam ripper and you have perfect wrestling kick pads. For MMA its also perfect, when they say for 50% you can haul off 70% and the pads keep impact low in training so you can get a good guage on your power. Also you can wipe them off afterwards since the are pleather and not fabric so theres no smell. Buy these.

“Exactly What I was looking for.” 2010-02-13
By Ben Hodgkins (Pokatella, ID, US)
I have been looking for kick pads like this for quite some time. I received these the other day, and when I tried them out I knew this was a good decision to buy them. Great construction. I was using them for a couple of hours and they didn’t start to rub the top of my foot causing a burn like some of the previous instep guards I’ve tried. I definitely will be purchasing from Piranha in the future. 5 Stars All around.
